Platelet Rich Plasma Injections

PRP Treatments / Vampire Facelift

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatment is ideal for those who would like a rejuvenation of the face, décolletage or hands, without using artificial products. PRP treatments are widely used throughout the medical field for their outstanding healing and regenerative qualities. They have traditionally been used for treatment of burns and skin wounds that do not heal, treatment of painful joints, tendons and osteoarthritis, in oral and maxillo-facial surgery, orthopaedic surgery, tissue engineering, plastic surgery and implantology.

The success of PRP treatments within the medical field have more recently extended its popularity within aesthetic medicine and skin rejuvenation.

What is PRP?

PRP (platelet rich plasma) is an injection treatment whereby a person’s own blood is used. A small fraction of blood is drawn up from the individual patient into a syringe. The blood is spun in a special centrifuge to separate its components (Red Blood Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma, Platelet Poor Plasma and Buffy Coat).

Here at Belissima we only use the best  PRP kits for the best quality platelet rich plasma.

What are the benefits of having PRP treatment?

Platelets are very small cells in your blood that are involved in the clotting and healing process. When PRP is applied into the damaged area it causes a mild inflammation that triggers the healing cascade. As the platelets organize in the treatment area, they release a number of enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells and growth factors to repair the damaged area. As a result, new collagen begins to develop. As the collagen matures it begins to shrink causing the tightening and strengthening of the damaged area. When treating injured or sun and time damaged tissue, they can induce a remodelling of the tissue to a healthier and younger state.

Where can PRP be used?

Areas typically treated for aesthetic purposes and skin rejuvenation include:

  • Crinkling skin around the eyes
  • Cheeks and lower face
  • Neck
  • Chest and Décolletage
  • Back of hands and arms
  • Scalp to stimulate hair growth

Almost all skin tones show that PRP is safe and effective because your own enriched plasma is used.

If you would like to further enhance the effects of the PRP treatment then you can combine it with a microneedling procedure whereby the microneedling creates the micro injury required to initiate cell regeneration and the PRP provides all the cells required for the regeneration to occur.

What are the risks and side effects?

  • Pain at the injection site
  • Bleeding, Swelling, Bruising and/or Infection as with any type of injection
  • Short lasting pinkness/redness (flushing) of the skin
  • Injury to a nerve and/or muscle as with any type of injection
  • Itching at the injection site(s)

Aftercare Instructions

  • Drink plenty of cold water for 48 hours after the procedure.
  • Do not touch your skin for at least 6 hours. Allow the serum to remain on your skin so it can continue to work.
  • You can rinse your face the next morning with lukewarm water, but avoid using any cleansers that can cause harm. Wash your hands with soap before touching the skin.
  • Avoid any kind of skincare products that can cause damage or peeling like facials, face massages, and laser treatments.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours, as these may exacerbate bruising and swelling.
  • While the discomfort should settle within 24 hours, if you continue to feel pain, take a paracetamol. Do not take anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation.
  • Gently pat dry taking special care not to rub the skin. You may sense that the skin is firmer than usual. But, over the next few days up to 2 weeks, it will soften and regain a supple, smooth feel.
  • Stay out of the sun and add applications of a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB, SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to your skincare routine
  • Avoid applying heat to the treated area on the day of treatment.
  • Avoid activities that cause facial flushing on the day of treatment, including consuming alcohol, hot tub or sauna use, exercising, and tanning.
  • Gently apply a cool compress or wrapped ice pack frequently as required to the area treated for up to 6 hours after the treatment. This will prevent or help to alleviate any bruising and also help to reduce any swelling. If occurs, it typically resolves within 7–10 days.
  • You can use Arnica cream and arnica tablets to help alleviate any bruising.
  • As part of the aftercare for Vampire facial, do not use any exfoliating or any other harsh agents on your skin for at least 72 hours. But you can use a non-chemical, organic moisturizer that is gentle. If your dermatologist recommends it, you can use hyaluronic acid to moisturize and nourish your skin.
